Getting started with energy saving and eco-friendly measures

Let’s all get moving and make Maastricht climate-neutral

The Maastrichts Energie Akkoord (Maastricht Energy Agreement, MEA) lists specific, sustainable activities and agreements between the Municipality of Maastricht and local companies. All agreements were made with the intent to reduce energy consumption, decrease CO2 emissions, and generate more sustainable energy. Which steps can you take?

The first MEA was signed in 2016 and it comprises the following five principles: Regional development, E-mobility, Built environment, Industry, and the municipal organization. Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar is responsible for the execution of the MEA Industry principle. This programme office started collaborating with a large number of companies and organizations in Maastricht on the themes of Mobility and Logistics in 2010. The MEA Industry principle is now expanding thanks to the addition of the ‘Care’ and ‘Large Buildings’ clusters. Together, they make up MEA-Grootzakelijk (MEA Wholesale).

The MEA team works with companies and partners to identify market opportunities and organize knowledge sessions. By sharing knowledge and experiences, we ensure that your company can reduce its energy consumption (and therefore costs) as well as use sustainable solutions more often. This will then contribute to your company's sustainable image. Will your organization join us on the road to a climate-neutral society?

The MEA are part of the Municipality of Maastricht's mission to become climate-neutral by 2050, known as: Mission Zero Maastricht.

How can we speed up the energy transition?

Together with the participating MEA organizations, the following propositions have been identified that offer added value to the majority of companies by making their organization, processes, and offices more energy-efficient and sustainable:

  • Compressed air
  • Solar-powered PV systems
  • LED lighting
  • To measure is to know

Companies considering investing energy saving and eco-friendly measures need to be able to estimate their financial outcomes. The payback times can be the deciding factor, as can potential sources of subsidies. The MEA team will be happy to give you advice, so please contact them for more information without any obligation.
